Texas’ Abbott says Dems who ‘fled’ state over elections bill will be arrested upon return
Fox News via MSN ^ | 7/13/21 | Edmund DeMarchePosted on 7/13/2021, 4:28:14 AM by Libloather
Gov. Greg Abbott, the Texas Republican, criticized state Democrats who fled to Washington, D.C., on Monday in an effort to deprive the Legislature of a quorum, thus the ability to vote on the GOP’s sweeping elections overhaul bill.
Abbott appeared on “The Ingraham Angle” on Monday to defend the bill and say the missing lawmakers will be arrested upon their return to the state. He said members of the Texas House of Representatives who are still in the state can call for the arrests of their colleagues who do not show up to vote. The one caveat is the arrest has to be made in the state.
“Once they step back into the state they will be arrested and brought back to the Capitol and we will be conducting business,” he said.
Republicans argue the contentious bill would provide greater election security, while Democrats charge it would suppress voter turnout of minorities.
The exodus was the second time that Democratic lawmakers have staged a walkout on the voting overhaul, a measure of their fierce opposition to proposals they say will make it harder for young people, people of color and people with disabilities to vote.
But like last month’s effort, there remains no clear path for Democrats to permanently block the voting measures, or a list of other contentious GOP-backed proposals up for debate
To: LibloatherDetained and put on a “body attachment”. This is an effective, if somewhat cumbersome method of assuring the designated person WILL comply with assigned duties in connection with the demands of a duly elected or appointed office, or of an appropriate court proceeding. Draconian, but used on occasion in the past, in accordance with old English law. There were once some rather recalcitrant members of Parliament who had to be brought in, and it was often used to assure that the accused criminal was brought before the King’s Bench.
Of course, you could just dunk them in the river to see if they float…
Today a writ of body attachment is used in preference to physically attaching a manacle between the designated person and an officer of the law.

Oregon Senate Republicans leave the state to avoid climate bill vote
The Oregonian/OregonLive ^ | June 20, 2019 | Hillary Borrud
Posted on 6/20/2019, 1:05:40 PM by gundogOregon Republican senators have left the Capitol and scattered in various directions outside the state in order to avoid being rounded up by troopers for a high-profile climate bill vote scheduled today.Reached just after 7 a.m. Thursday, Sen. Cliff Bentz of Ontario said he was on his way out of the state. “In a few moments, I will not be in Oregon,” said Bentz, who spent most of Wednesday meeting with Gov. Kate Brown’s staff in an effort to negotiate changes to the carbon cap-and-trade plan, House Bill 2020.*********************************Good. That’s the only option remaining to Republicans.
To: fruser1If they stay for a vote, the bill passes. If they leave, the Senate cannot form a quorum to hold the vote. It’s the only way to stop stupid.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Oh – and BTW, love your handle.

GOP House leaders pile on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene: She invoked no more wrongful use of the Holocaust as a metaphor for forced vaccination than anyone charging former President Trump with stating a “Big Lie.”

Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene doesn’t like the idea of vaccine passports, and she tweeted about it:
Vaccinated employees get a vaccination logo just like the Nazi’s forced Jewish people to wear a gold star. Vaccine passports & mask mandates create discrimination against unvaxxed people who trust their immune systems to a virus that is 99% survivable.

Note that she invoked no more wrongful use of the Holocaust as a metaphor than anyone charging former President Trump with stating a “Big Lie.” But there has been a fierce pile-on against her. Consider this report from Business Insider on Taylor Greene’s defense of her Covid-19 comments:
Greene subsequently lashed out at critics, saying she was referring not to “the Holocaust” but rather “only the discrimination against Jews in early Nazi years.”
Note the shrill hyperbole in the report from Business Insider — “Greene subsequently lashed out at critics[.]” Wouldn’t “Greene subsequently explained to critics” have sufficed?

To: SeekAndFindMarjorie is a gem that must be protected,
and is no more guilty of saying something offensive to SOME one than President Trump, or joe biden offending everybody ALL the time.
To: SeekAndFindYes, the GOP are a bunch of pussies, but people like MTG need to try to hold off using the Nazis and the Holocaust as the only example of repression. She is right of course, but Reductio ad Hitlerum comes to mind.19 posted on 5/26/2021, 10:04:49 AM by Sans-Culotte (11/3-11/4/2020 – The USA became a banana republic.)

To: SeekAndFindAnd she apologized for it today. Seems that even MTG understands more than people in this site-that what she said is reprehensible. Most of you should be ashamed.
New York Suspends Rudy Giuliani Law License over Election Fraud Claims breitbart ^ | 06/24/2021 | Joel B Pollack Posted on 6/24/2021, 11:36:40 AM by ChicagoConservative27
The State of New York has suspended Rudy Giuliani’s law license over his claims of fraud in the 2020 election, according to a court decision released Thursday.
The decision states:
Respondent was admitted to practice as an attorney and counselor at law in the State of New York on June 25, 1969, under the name Rudolph William Giuliani. He maintains a law office within the First Judicial Department.
For the reasons that follow, we conclude that there is uncontroverted evidence that respondent communicated demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign in connection with Trump’s failed effort at reelection in 2020. These false statements were made to improperly bolster respondent’s narrative that due to widespread voter fraud, victory in the 2020 United States presidential election was stolen from his client. We conclude that respondent’s conduct immediately threatens the public interest and warrants interim suspension from the practice of law, pending further proceedings before the Attorney Grievance Committee.
The ruling stated that Giuliani’s suspension is “interim,” and that his statements about election fraud were made “knowingly.” Though he has First Amendment rights, the court noted, he is also bound by rules of professional conduct.

What a commie witch hunt. Disgusting.

To: ChicagoConservative27Since Giuliani hurt Trump more than helped him, I don’t have much sympathy. He was very much all talk and no action, and most of his talk was speculative, not substantive or actionable. He accomplished nothing other than embarrass Trump.

Derek Chauvin has been sentenced to 22.5 years for murdering George Floyd. 270 months.
The Freeperati haz a collective sad.
To: CoronalThis is a travesty of Justice. Stick a fork in Minnesota. Get out while you can…
To: CoronalPolitical trial followed by political sentencing

To: CoronalWell, he could have avoided this whole mess by putting the guy in the squad car and taking him to the pokey. Instead, in these racially charged times, he CHOSE to spend 9 minutes playing the badass while being videoed. As some here like to say, play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I don’t feel sorry for him. He ramped up all kinds of civil unrest and crime and assaults and some people, including cops, are dead because of this kind of crap.
To: bluejeanYou don’t belong here. Get out
.
Oh – and love your handle.
To: Az Joe“You don’t belong here. Get out”Nope. Been here for years. Just because I can see the disaster from both sides instead of loathing Floyd and supporting Chauvin’s stupidity just because he was a cop doesn’t mean I don’t belong here. They were both idiots. The justice system is completely f’d as well. It’s all fubar.
To: bluejeanYou are offering ill-informed opinion. You’re an idiot. You have no facts its just your rank conjecture and its biased. Love to meet in person and straighten it out. Oh that would be fun.
