I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)

I’m slowly but surely working my way back to a full-blown Friday Cocktail Hour. This time I have four vocal versions and an instrumental take on this week’s song.

Stevie Wonder wrote I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever) in 1972 with his then wife Syreeta Wright. Ironically, the marriage lasted only 18 months, but the song endures. That’s the last time I’m typing the whole damn title.

I believe we’ll begin with the songwriter’s original version from his breakthrough album, Talking Book:

Peter Frampton recorded an early cover of I Believe. It’s long been a staple of his live shows.

Art Garfunkel had a hit with this week’s tune in 1975.

Finally, my countryman George Michael with a synth heavy interpretation of the Stevie-Syreeta tune.

What would the Friday Cocktail Hour be without an instrumental version of the week’s tune? This time, Neal Schon takes us on an instrumental Journey.

That’s it for this week. I propose a toast to Stevie Wonder. Thanks for all the great music, man. It’s what Aaron, Art, Charles, and Cyril would want. Never argue with them.
