We haven’t checked in on the Menendez corruption case for a while. Make that trials. Bob and Nadine may be holding hands in the featured image but their trials have been severed. That has nothing to do with decapitation: It means they’ll be tried separately.
Like his fellow corrupt politician Donald Trump, Bob Menendez has been trying to slow down his trial, but his latest dilatory motion has been rejected by Judge Sidney Stein. The Senator’s trial is scheduled to begin on May 6 in Federal Court in Manhattan. Nadine’s trial is tentatively scheduled for July 8. It even has a theme song:
Just when you thought the Menendez family film noir couldn’t get more sordid, it looks as if the Senator will try what is best described as the dupe defense:
“Newly unsealed court documents show that Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) may seek to blame his wife, Nadine Menendez, for withholding information in a case that led to federal bribery charges.
In passages unsealed Tuesday, the senator’s lawyers wrote in a legal brief that they plan to try to show the “absence of any improper intent on Senator Menendez’s part” by demonstrating how his wife withheld information from him “or otherwise led him to believe that nothing unlawful was taking place.”
We already knew that Menendez was a creepy crook, but this confirms that he’s a cad as well.
Team Menendez wants us to believe that the former chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was duped and bamboozled by his less sophisticated second wife. In short, Menendez wants us to believe that he’s stupid, not corrupt. I, for one, am not buying it. He may be for sale but I’m not.
Many unflattering words describe Bob Menendez: arrogant, bounder, cad, creep, crook, heel, louse, scoundrel. But one thing he’s not is a dumbass: He’s a cad who’s too slick for his own good. He’s also a terrible husband. Who throws their wife under the bus? A Jersey Cad, that’s who.
I hesitated to use this song because it comes from an album called Vodka Context. I loathe vodka and Bob Menendez with equal vehemence but it’s the only song I could find with cad in the title. The last word goes to Everlounge:
