This week, a soul song with one of the best titles ever. I forgot about it, so it’s time for a revival. When you have a musical itch, it’s best to scratch it.
The great Motown songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland wrote Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart in 1965. It was written for The Supremes, that’s where we begin.
Nona Hendryx has done it all. This is her first appearance on the FCH as a solo artist. I have the itch to mention that she was one of the Labelle three and first appeared here when Lady Marmalade was featured.
What would the Friday Cocktail Hour be without instrumental versions of the week’s tune? This time, The Funk Brothers and the marvelous jazz pianist Geri Allen with David McMurray on sax.
That’s it for this week. I propose a toast to Holland-Dozier-Holland. Thanks for all the great music, y’all. It’s what Mac, Irma, Allen, and Aaron would want. Never argue with them.
