Bridge Over Troubled Water

This has been an exhausting fortnight, so I’m keeping it simple this week. There are well north of 700 covers of this week’s tune. I’m featuring two vocal versions and one instrumental. Who needs to be overwhelmed?

Paul Simon wrote Bridge Over Troubled Water in 1969 for the album of the same name. It was an instant and overwhelming success: winning multiple Grammy Awards.

We begin with the Simon & Garfunkel original featuring the piano stylings of Larry Knechtel:

The Queen of Soul took the Simon tune to church and the Fillmore West in 1971:

What would the Friday Cocktail Hour be without an instrumental version of the week’s tune? This time, Charlie Byrd.

That’s it for this week. I propose a toast to peace and quiet. We really need some right now. It’s what Bogie, Betty, and Frank would want. Never argue with them.
