An Open Letter To Dr. Bill Cassidy

Dear Senator Cassidy,

I have never voted for you, but I think that underneath the rhetoric you are a decent human being. Besides, I am one of your constituents and if you take constituent service seriously, you will hear me out.

You give lip service to MAGA but your support for that agenda is muted, not full-throated. I was pleased when you voted to convict the leader of your party in 2021. It proved that you’re not all profile and no courage.

The reason I am writing is the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Junior to be HHS Secretary. He is both unfit and unqualified for the job. He holds extreme views that you as a physician know are not only wrong but dangerously wrong. That is why you should send a signal to the crazies and crackpots by voting NAY on the Kennedy nomination.

I know what you are thinking: If I vote NAY I am in political trouble in 2026. You already are, Senator. There are plans afoot for you to be primaried by a candidate to be named later. Gov. Jeff Landry DBA The Clownfish has never gotten over your impeachment vote in 2021 as well as your support for masks and vaccines during the pandemic. That support may have been muted, not full-throated but you swam against your party’s tide and won reelection in 2020. But that was before the vote that Trump will never forgive. and that Landry will never let you forget.

The Clownfish has been plotting your demise ever since he became Gret Stet Governor. You are one reason that Landry pushed through a law ending the open primary system for federal races. That puts you in a Republican primary against a Landry and Trump backed candidate. Your support is not deep enough to win a closed primary without the sort of moderate voters who are scarce in your party. Politically, you are doomed.

Your impending political demise supports a NAY vote on Bobby Junior’s nomination. If you are going to lose anyway, you might as well go down in a blaze of glory.

As a doctor, you worked in the public health sector, so I know you care about Medicaid and Medicare. Kennedy and Trump do not.

Bobby Junior was called a predator by his cousin Caroline. Is that the sort of person you want in charge of the CDC and NIH?

Always remember that you’re a doctor first and a senator second. If you honor the Hippocratic oath, there’s only one way to vote on the Kennedy nomination, NAY.

Thank you for listening, Dr. Cassidy.

Sincerely,

Peter Athas

PS: I always have a musical last word on my posts. I see no reason to change that for an open letter.

The last word goes to The Rolling Stones:

  1. Dr. Cassidy was my first vote after moving to Louisiana in 2004. He was highly recommended by my fellow LDEQ co-workers. I was very disappointed when he completely flipped his natural script for the Tea Party script.

  2. Both Louisiana senators began the political lives as liberal Democrats. At least Cassidy doesn’t pretend to be a buffoon.

  3. Voted for two fraudulent impeachments. Two trillion dollar inflationary Biden bills. Wasteful fraud infested covid relief spending, gun control, corporte welfare for the semiconductor industry, Conservative Review score is 55%, an “F”.

    1. Ah, you must be new here.
The only fraudulent bits of the impeachments were the breathtaking audacity of those who voted NAY, and the Fraudster-in-Chief his own self.
