Malaka Of The Week: Winsome Earle-Sears

Winsome Earle-Sears is running for Governor of Virginia. Her views are so extreme that Donald Trump has been reluctant to endorse her. And that is why Winsome Earle-Sears is malaka of the week.

The Virginia gubernatorial election is typically a bellwether of a sitting president’s popularity. Virginia is a purple state yearning to be blue. It already is in federal elections: a Republican presidential nominee hasn’t carried the Commonwealth since 2004 and both senators are Democrats.

I realize that many insist that Virginia is true blue, but Malaka Winsome was elected Lt. Gov in 2021. It was a good year for GOPers, which is how this nutbar won. Given the DOGE and shutdown layoffs of Federal workers, she’s unlikely to defeat the Democratic candidate, former US Rep. Abigail Spanberger. Earle-Sears has passed up every opportunity to criticize the Republican war on federal employees, an estimated 320k of whom live in Virginia. The MAGA malaktude, it burns.

Malaka Winsome seems ignorant of the first rule of holes: When you’re in one, stop digging. In the lone debate with Spanberger she made a series of unforced errors that a shrewder candidate would have avoided. She’s rabidly anti-choice and claimed that Spanberger held:

“…the extremist view which is abortion up until the very hour that the baby could be born. Up until the very minute, the very minute. And so you would have a baby aborted on the table.”

That is a lie, which bolsters her MAGA bona fides but should repel everyone else.

Earle-Sears  is equally terrible on the subject of gay rights. That led to this counterattack from Spanberger at the debate:

“My opponent was asked about her record of discrimination and, importantly, my opponent has previously said she does not think that gay couples should be allowed to marry,” Spanberger said. “She has said that she is, quote-unquote, morally opposed to same-sex marriage.”

Earle-Sears interrupted, saying, “That’s not discrimination.”

“My opponent has also previously said that she thinks it’s OK for someone to be fired from their job for being gay,” Spanberger continued.

Earle-Sears again interrupted, saying: “That’s not discrimination. No.”

It may not be discrimination in Malaka Winsome’s book, but it is in mine.

Verbal bomb throwing is nothing new for the Lt. Gov. During a 2022 radio interview, Earle-Sears issued a thinly veiled threat to the pro-choice majority in Virginia and across the country:

“Let’s not talk about what’s happening with Ukraine. When you are willing to kill a child up until the day that the baby could be born, go get thee a mirror and ask yourself if you’re OK with this kind of thing. I don’t care whether you’re Libertarian, Democrat, Reform Party, Green, I don’t care who you are. Murder is murder. And one day it’s going to be your turn.”

You know what they say, you win some, you lose some. It’s Malaka Winsome’s turn to lose: Extremist liars have no business in the Virginia Governor’s mansion. And that is why Winsome Earle-Sears is malaka of the week.

The last word goes to Tony Bennett:

  1. I’m sure Ms. Earle-Sears has come out with multiple statements against the felon’s administration blowing ships to smithereens in the Caribbean. Murder being murder, as she so perceptively notes.

What’s that? Not a peep? Shocking.
