Hey Look, It’s Rip Van Riley

Riley Moore is my MAGA House rep. He has no interest in being an actual representative for his district, mind you, it’s just that like a lot of his family, for example his cousin Moore Capito who needed his mommy Senator Shelley Moore Capito to have the Senate blow up the filibuster so he could finally get a (government) job, he really has no other employment alternatives.

Riley’s main goal in life right now is to get on FOX TV. He would push his own mother under a literal bus if it meant he got to go on FOX. (His previous goal in life was to get President Grievance to learn who he was, and that failed.) To that end, he has gone to El Salvador to preen in front of men who were unlawfully imprisoned, as you can see in the cover photo. This was during Holy Week 2025.

I add that detail because Riley is even more of a cosplay Catholic than JD Vance is. There’s nothing “holy” he won’t post about as he spends the rest of his waking hours doing as much harm as he can to the most vulnerable among us. Riley also decided to care about Nigeria for a few months, and got a taxpayer paid junket out of it, but since then he’s repeated the same talking points about it for the last year mainly because he failed at his first goal.

But then last Tuesday West Virginia held its primary elections, and although Riley was unopposed in the Republican primary, he did gain a Democratic opponent. And low and behold, suddenly Riley has remembered that he lives in West Virginia and he is determined to let us know how much he cares.

One of the biggest problems in WV is that some people don’t have clean drinking water, which was the subject of a recent 60 Minutes story (which is now paywalled and its transcript has been pulled too). Riley has not talked about the water issue during his tenure. See, it’s not an issue in the county he lives in, but I can tell you that those of us who do not have that issue are still very concerned about our fellow citizens and their health.

But now Riley has a defined opponent for the November election, and he has a great campaign message:  that he cares about the rest of us. Ace Parsi came to the US from Iran as a child and he is asking people to tell him their stories about their lives, hopes, and fear, while running on themes of kindness, empowerment, and our shared humanity.

So on Wednesday Rip Van Riley woke up for a 20 year nap and realized he was living in West Virginia, and posted this:

Not only is this awkward and transparently grasping, but what he is proposing is utterly meaningless. He’s directing the Army Corps of Engineers to keep on doing what they’re doing. There is nothing meaningful in what he says his amendment does (I can’t find any reference to it on the House Appropriations Committee notes). There is no plan to clean up the water supply or to work on the failed infrastructure or even to do a study.

In fact, it doesn’t appear to be an actual amendment at all. What it is is a simple edit to the text. Riley, who needed a video clip for FOX, asked the committee to tell the Army Corps of Engineers to be as helpful as they can to people who need help. That’s it. It’s not a solution, or a path to a solution, or even a short term aid. It’s just a soundbite for a pathetic nepo baby to pretend he cares about a serious issue in his state.

There are a lot of terrible Republican House reps who get lots of attention in the press. But Riley is among the worst of the worst, because he’s a lying, venal Christian Nationalist. That’s why people should support Ace Parsi.

I’ll leave you with this:
