Can’t Get It Out Of My Head

I hadn’t played ELO’s Eldorado album in years until this week. I’ve played it four days in a row. I hadn’t forgotten how great it was but did I forget to remember? Beats the hell outta me.

I have a specific memory involving Can’t Get It Out Of My Head. My high school friend Chris’ family had what they called a cabin at Lake Tahoe. I’d call it a chalet or some such shit. You say cabin; I say chalet. Let’s call the whole thing off.

I recall riding to Tahoe in a station wagon full of friends with Eldorado on the tune box. We all sang along to this week’s tune as we rolled through what Larry Hart called the mountain greenery. Something else I forgot to remember until writing this post.

At the risk of being repetitive, Jeff Lynne wrote Can’t Get It Out Of My Head for ELO’s 1974 album Eldorado. It’s a lovely song that has a special place in my heart and on The Electric Light Orchestra Dozen.

I have Fountains Of Wayne’s version in my head. I can’t get it out or some such shit.

John Paul White is best known as a member of The Civil Wars. Here’s his solo acoustic version of the Lynne classic.

Velvet Revolver is a hard rock supergroup featuring members of Guns ‘N Roses and Stone Temple Pilots.

Juliana Hatfield has recorded an entire album of ELO songs. This is one of them.

Finally, an ELO live reprise.

What? No shades?

That’s it for this week. I propose a toast to Jeff Lynne. Thanks for all the great music. It’s what The Traveling Wilburys would want. Never argue with them.
