I still have the blues. Make that I’m still playing the blues after our trip to Oxford and Clarksdale. This week, we have a song from Delta bluesman Jimmy Reed; not to be confused with zany country guy Jerry Reed.
Jimmy Reed wrote Ain’t That Lovin You Baby in 1955. It contains this classic blues zinger: “Ain’t that lovin’ you baby, but you don’t even know my name.”
Burn.
We begin with the songwriter.
Here’s Etta James rocking the house.
Don and Phil Everly bring some brotherly love to this week’s proceedings.
Eric Clapton. Say no more.
Finally, the great blues and soul singer. Bettye LaVette.
That’s it for this week. We’re out of lovin’ baby. I propose a toast to what the world needs now; that and a sane American president. It’s what the Mount Rushmore Four would want. Never argue with them.
