I’m not writing this to make you feel good. You are to feel worried, anxious, and slightly pessimistic about the midterms until further notice. Do whatever you can to help our chances and buy yourself some interim comfort. On that note:
I can’t help but notice a range of news items suggesting that the facade of the current corrupt enterprise known as the Trump administration is crumbling. That’s on top of recent events such as the transparent round of Raid The Brown Lady and the Talarico freakout.
THE DESPERATION of this one certainly leapt off the page:
The Federal Communications Commission is considering a request by a conservative group to loosen rules on political robocalls, including those with artificial intelligence-generated voices, before November’s midterm elections.
I shudder to think what right-wing PACs could and would do with this. If neutrality favors the oppressor, then deceptive technology favors the asshats.
NEW PHONE, WHO DIS? We’re less than three weeks from voting, and it’s now coming out that the DOJ has suddenly stopped cooperating with Minnesota investigators looking into the ICE murders. Just an oversight, I’m sure.
WHILE CONDIMENTS get thrown against the Oval Office wall whenever Talarico appears on the TV, the pregame preblame has begun. POTUS is pondering a Paxton loss — out loud, no less — and pre-accusing Sen. Cornyn and Karl Rove of being “weak” and “ineffective” and thus pre-responsible. A lot of things have changed in the Trump era, but “every accusation is a confession” isn’t one of them.
THERE’S ALWAYS TIME for TACOs … and DJT comes through again. The latest chicken-out puts the kibosh on Defense Secretary Hegseth’s dreams of livestreaming executions. Trump got the PR willies when he realized that the Fort Hood shooter is in a wheelchair. So Trump still likes killing people in the name of the state, and he still wants to kill this guy. He just doesn’t want to murder the guy in the wheelchair where anybody can see it. No supposed deterrent value, just the violence (and the cowardice).
At least we got to see these clowns try to explain theology to the Pope and almost realize that conservatives have been using religion to preserve a tilted power structure for eons.
YOUR ASS IS … GRASS? Finally, the best quote of the week, from Mr. Silver Linings Playbook, House Speaker Mike Johnson:
“Heaven forbid, if we lose this majority or whatever, I don’t know what my next chapter of life is. If God moves on our hearts and says we should, you know, go back to my hometown of Shreveport and start a lawn business, I’ll do that with equal fervor.”
It’s one thing to think it. But to say it on camera at this point? They’re starting to crack. Reality is seeping in. They know they’ll have to get lucky to keep even one chamber.
It’s up to us to drop the hammer. Plenty left to do. But there’s time for a singalong …
