One Week

Buster Keaton as the projectionist in Sherlock Jr. is my fallback featured image for campaign posts. Campaigns are messy; full of tangled strands, hopes, dreams, and fears. Life imitates silent movies.

Team MAGA is flooding the zone with shit. They’re trying to scare people from voting with preposterous litigation. The Alaska suit is simultaneously menacing and ridiculous: The MAGA DOJ is trying to get a court to rule that the only valid winner is incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. Why? Because there’s another guy named Dan Sullivan on the ballot even though the senator’s entry lists him as “Republican incumbent.”

Trump has contempt for his voters. He claims that “most people don’t know what incumbent means.” That was probably true of him before he became the birther-in-chief, he is an idiot, after all. MAGA is trying to revive birtherism in Michigan:

That’s exactly how it works unless you’re a deeply delusional MAGA maggot.

Speaking of deeply delusional:

Projection, thy name is MAGA. Hence Buster:

The Insult Comedian and the Hillbilly Elegist are spending their time propping up bad candidates in red states instead of swing states. Come on down Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, and South Carolina. Repeat after me: Candidates matter.

Team MAGA believes they’re laying the groundwork for claims of election fraud. They’re losing in court and in the court of public opinion, Donald’s credibility is shot except with his most delusional acolytes. LBJ and Tricky Dick had credibility gaps, the Kaiser of Chaos has a credibility canyon.

Blowing as much smoke as this Orpheus float isn’t working in 2026:

If anyone thinks I’m overconfident, you’re wrong. I’m confident, not cocky. Team Democracy needs to keep pushing down to the wire to combat the billionaire bucks flooding the airwaves. I love the smell of burning MAGA money in the morning.

I do have one cautionary note. I think people are putting too much stock in early voting numbers. Some folks in the Gret Stet of Louisiana have pointed out that early voting numbers here are running ahead of Barack Obama in 2008. A reminder that Obama received 39.3% of the vote in the Bayou State that year.

I agree with Josh Marshall about early voting:

Earlier this month I wrote a piece entitled Friends Don’t Let Friends Watch the Early Vote. I wanted to re-up that recommendation, notwithstanding the fact that I have kept an eye on these findings, as I always do. The simple fact is that all of these efforts amount to figuring out how big a share of the pie you have before you know how big the pie is. That doesn’t mean you can’t glean anything by analyzing these things or that the knowledgable people doing it are silly or mendacious. They’re not. It’s just that you can’t draw any firm conclusions from it and our desire to see what we want in these entrails greatly outweighs the hints we can get from them. As I noted before, this is especially the case because the partisan dynamics of who votes early, in person, by mail, on Election Day, etc., is in so much flux.”

Actually, I agree with Josh on most things political.

Along with everyone else, I’m worn out by the flood of fundraising emails and texts. And I’ve only donated to 4 senatorial candidates: Jon Ossoff, Sherrod Brown, Josh Turek, and Adam Hamilton. Do I agree with those guys on everything? Of course not.

Repeat after me: There is no such thing as a bespoke candidate.

I’m having my perennial tetchiness with people insisting that early voting is the only way to go. I’ve early voted twice because I was going out of town, I prefer voting at my neighborhood polling place. It’s a nice walk and I know many of the poll workers.

Shorter Adrastos: I’m immune to peer pressure.

I’ve always expected a strong Democratic comeback in 2026. The Insult Comedian has left a trail of broken promises as he flies around the country talking about Jon Husted’s ass. The lies are flying fast and furious but they’re not landing as they did in the past. The scales are falling from the eyes of many Trump voters who finally understand that Donald is a con artist who hoodwinked them in the past and is trying to bamboozle them again. It’s not working.

You say 7 days; I say one week. Let’s get out the vote.
