  1. I read, whilst sitting down and/or lying down. I also have a beer on occasion, take some nice baths, and just generally try to calm down as much as I can.
I now know why my mom had to have a gin and tonic or a beer every evening. She doesn’t do much of that anymore…and it coincided with both her children finally leaving the house. Coincidence? I think not.

  2. Screaming, etc.
But also blowing away zombies in Left 4 Dead whilst enjoying a Pacifico Clara with lots of lime. Yum!

  3. I settle down on the couch with my iPod and this lovely soft blankie my DIL gave me, pick out a podcast, and close my eyes. I’m asleep within seconds and by the time said podcast is over I’m calm and rested. Works every time; I’ve never met a podcast that wouldn’t put me to sleep. And there are gazillions to choose from!
    Peace, V.

  4. Red, red wine.
Finding new music to listen to.
Playing acoustic guitar, wish I was better at it.
    I tinker with computers.
    Play with the dog.
    Breath. Breath. Quietness. Breath.

  5. I read something about stress a while back that makes sense. It said there is no such thing as stress. What we perceive as stress is actually fear. So when you feel stress (the theory goes), try to figure out what it is that you’re afraid of and why you’re afraid of it. This doesn’t make all stress go away, but it helps put many stressful things into a less stressful perspective.

  6. Martinis, olives, more martinis, more olives…until oblivion (gin, of course).

  7. tae kwon do. Nothing like kicking the crap out of a punching bag to de-stress – and you get all of those lovely endorphins afterward.

  8. On bad days I try and out chaos the anxiety with too much coffee and swearing at the tv. Surprisingly this sometimes works. On good days, tai chi, cleaning, knitting and jig saw puzzles are better outlets. When I don’t know my ass from my elbow, I take a half a xanax.

  9. Say fuck a LOT. Surf the internet for stupid and funny sites to take my mind off things.

  10. there is an old video game called “Star Wars.” When I’m really stressed I can start at “advanced” and “use the force” for 27-28 minutes at a time.

  11. Well, stress and anger are two different things for me. Anger I express through breaking things (though I’ve at least learned to channel that–I have a whiffle bat that I bash against a doorframe–feels great, doesn’t do any damage).
Stress–I stop eating, I engage in OCD behavior (sorting coins, making certain the gap between the stove and the countertop is so clean you could do surgery in it, that sort of thing). Actually, cleaning is a favorite, now that I think about it. I think it’s a way for me to take control of something when I feel like I’m not in control.
Apparently, however, I am not stressed out enough, because my house is a godawful mess.

  12. Take a bike ride. Or a walk. I also do drink some, but it doesn’t really help as much as the other two.

  13. I go to the gym and lift heavy things while listening to loud music. I think about “Okay, what can I do about thisright now right this minute,” and then go and do it. If that doesn’t work or I can’t do anything, ginger ale is really tasty with either gin or amaretto mixed into it… I used to smoke pot, but I’ve been…out for a really long time.
