  4. Hey, A, I got an e-mail from The Dodd yesterday, he’s been diagnosed with the early stages of prostate cancer, going to have surgery during the break. From the e-mail:
    “After the Senate adjourns at the end of next week, I’ll have surgery to remove the cancer. After a week or two of recuperation, I expect to be right back to work.
    After all, as a Member of Congress, I have great health insurance. I was able to get screened, seek the opinions of highly skilled doctors, consider all the available options, and choose the treatment that was right for me.
    And I know you’ll agree that every American deserves the same ability.”
    Too bad that part didn’t show up in the story about it on CNN, eh?
    I know, there is an ethics investigation over mortgages, and he’s taken tons of lobbyist money from banks, and he’s not perfect, but I still love me The Dodd. Don’t have a blog of my own, so maybe you could do a Happy Democrat best wishes to him post?

  5. Liprap – all ordered and can’t wait! Is the stuff shipping to us or do we pick it up when we check in?
    I’ll be checking the site for the Meet&Greet for that Friday. 🙂 I can’t wait! I just finished reading “Nine Lives” (on the heels of “One Dead In Attic”)…wow, both were really good. And the Weds before RT IV, I’ll be at the RDA’s (Rice Design Alliance) “Post Ike” planning lecture, I think this one’s on design and such.

  6. hey guys? Nancy Pelosi has said single-payer will get a vote on the House floor.
    We need to call, write, fax, email, visit the Congressmembers who represent us over the break and make sure they know — hear, see, understand — that if we don’t get real healthcare reform (Single Payer is the best option, according to what President Obama said in his last press conference — you know, the one Fox didn’t carry? — and it’s very simple ’cause it’s really “Medicare for Everybody”) — they won’t get re-elected. Here’s one of the Texas representatives making the reason abundantly clear:

  11. 2 Things are really gnawing at me.
    On the sillier side, the local kids drug-free coalition is running an add where kids come on the screen:
    *) Smart kids don’t do drugs
    *) Baseball players don’t do drugs (and then hits a ball)
    etc
    Baseball players don’t do drugs? HuH? What happens when this kid learns that his rationale for being drug free is seriously logic challenged?
    On the more important side, I really need someone to yell at. I just can’t get over the idea that repub backed astroturfers are instructing folks in how to disrupt town hall meetings and even bussing their volunteer agitators (?teabaggers?) from town to town to disrupt meetings.
    Really makes me think civil discourse is now officially dead which means a democracy is dead.
