failing to focus before 9/11 on what U.S. intelligence knew of al-Qaeda’s threat to America. But was President similarly remiss in the months before the attemptedChristmas Day attack on a Detroit-bound airliner? So far, the White House hasn’t provided enough information to make the judgment.was widely criticized for
If by “widely criticized” you mean “criticized by some hippies on blogs and by people who were later demonized as grief whores,” then okay. And hey, guess what? If the White House hasn’t provided enough information to make the judgment, DON’T MAKE THE JUDGMENT. Sweet lavender Christ, already.
The more I think about it, the more I think the problem with our mainstream press is that they can’t sense when a story is dying on the table. Reporters out there, you know what I’m talking about, when you think you have something, you spend the whole day chasing it down, you’ve almost got it, and then … it crashes on you. You find out something that renders your hypothesis invalid or at least deeply suspect, or somebody you NEEEEED won’t talk to you or hasn’t called you back, or the data doesn’t show what you thought it would, or you’re just plain wrong, and you’re just standing there pounding on the damn thing trying to get a pulse but it’s just not happening and you have to go to your editor and have him pronounce it dead.
What did Obama know? This guy couldn’t get the story, but instead of giving up he writes something anyway, and cloaks it in some bullshit “I don’t know what I don’t know,” like anybody should still be singing the Rumsfeld theme song in 2010. I’m sure if pressed he and his editors would babble some bullshit about how the 24-hour news cycle demands quick action and isn’t it terrible how nobody has the choice anymore to not be a dickhead? Like you’re not responsible for the twitching thing in front of you that shouldn’t be seen by anybody, that you push out the door anyway proclaiming “IT’S ALIVE!!!!”
