Jon Swift Roundup 2023

Lists are big at this time of year, so are roundups. The Jon Swift Roundup is one of my favorites as the focus is on satire. It was started in 2007 by Al Weiser DBA Jon Swift then continued by everyone’s favorite Vagabond Scholar, Batocchio.

I’ve been participating since 2016. I’m honored to be in the company of such blogging rock stars as Tengrain, Driftglass, The Rude Pundit, and our host Batocchio.

It’s a self-nominating process, which is a good thing because bloggers don’t like being edited. We don’t, however, mind being rounded up even if it makes us sound like cattle. Actually, bloggers are more like cats: impossible to herd.

My submission this year was a no-brainer:

First Draft

“The Talented Mr. Santos Pop Quiz”
Peter Adrastos Athas: “Test your bullshit detector with this quiz. Lying is encouraged, it’s what George would do.”

Not bad if I say so myself.

You’re probably wondering why the featured image is a picture of Henry Fonda, Barbara Stanwyck, and Preston Sturges on the set of The Lady Eve. First, Sturges was a great satirist. Second, Batocchio’s blog header image includes Joel McRae in Sturges’ Sullivan’s Travels.

This guy also shows up in the Vagabond Scholar header:

It’s time for me to take a powder and give you the Jon Swift Roundup 2023.

The last word goes to A Lot Like Birds:
