It’s been a wet summer across the country. We’re also deluged with bad news. The Insult Comedian is an arsonist with an arsenal who seems hell bent on burning down the world. He mutters incoherently about a deal with Iran. There *was* a deal with Iran, which Trump discarded in his first term because John Kerry and Barack Obama negotiated it. Who’ll stop the rain? Surely, not Donald Trump.
I brought up politics because John Fogerty used the weather as a metaphor when he wrote Who’ll Stop The Rain in 1970. In this instance, the rain was the Vietnam War, which droned on until 1975 prolonged by America’s previous criminal president, Richard Nixon. The current occupant is, of course, worse than Nixon.
Enough politics, on to the music.
We begin with the CCR studio OG from Cosmo’s Factory:
Debbie Davies is a blues musician who put her own spin on the Fogerty classic in 1998:
All aboard for Girl Overboard:
John Fogerty has recorded this week’s tune on more than one occasion. This time, with Bob Seger.
Duke Robillard is a prince among blues musicians. Is that a promotion or demotion from Duke? Discuss amongst yourselves.
Dwight Yoakam. Say no more.
Finally, some family fun from the Fogertys:
What would the Friday Cocktail Hour be without an instrumental version of the week’s tune? This time, The Midnite String Quartet.
That’s it for this week. Who’ll Stop The Rain served as the theme song for a 1978 movie starring Nick Nolte. My favorite cousin Katina acted with him at a community theatre in Phoenix. Let’s drink to her. It’s what Nick would want. Never argue with him.
