I noticed a large increase in the most recent report of Louisiana’s Katrina death toll. They report today…

There have been 1,282 deceased victims of Hurricane Katrina from Louisiana.

So I contacted the LA Dept of Health and Hospitals: Bureau of Media & Communications dept. The increase is from 3 more bodies found and as of last week they now include the 199 out of state deaths in the total. These are deaths that occured from August 27 – October 1, 2005. The person I spoke with said that “only storm related deaths” were included in the out of state deaths. Here is a break down by state…

There also appears to be a discrepancy in the Mississippi death toll. It has been at 231 but another source has it at 238.

The total Katrina death toll now stands at…..

Louisiana…………1282

Mississippi…………231 (older # until discrepancy can be determined)

Florida……………….14

Alabama………………2

Georgia………………..2

Total……………..1531

But they are still searching 400 NOLA addresses at which they believe are more remains. There are still 1502 people missing.
