Happy Thought of the Day

From Holden:

This should cheer you up.

John Bolton became the US Ambassador to the UN via recess appointment. According to Article II, Section 2 of the US Consitution

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

So Bolton’s commission as our ambassador to the UN ends in January, 2007, less than a year from now. Bush will have to renominate him, and then he will have to be approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (approval Bolton did not win the first time around) and the full Senate.

The same rule applies to all of the other craven recess appointments this president has chosen to make.

There, feel better?
