Democrat About to be Pilloried for Doing Shit Only Dick Cheney Gets to Do

Like getting five deferments during Vietnam.

And lying to people.

Admittedly, serving “in” Vietnam as opposed to “in the armed forces during the Vietnam War” is the kind of fine distinction Dick Cheney would never even bother making, and his deferments may have been the only things he didn’t lie about.

This Blumenthal fellow just needs to shoot a guy in the face and then he’ll be golden.

  1. “This Blumenthal fellow just needs to shoot a guy in the face and then he’ll be golden.”
Does he need suggestions as to possible targets? Because I’m sure that we could help him out with this.

  2. Blumenthal’s problem is less about the five deferments than it is about the lying.
Dick Cheney just admits up front that he had “other priorities” than military service during the Vietnam war. Blumenthal actually pretends he was there when in fact he was busy finishing his degree at Harvard, working in the Nixon White House and organizing the Marines’ Toys for Tots drive.
Even Dubya never pretend that his “service” in the Texas Air National Guard amounted to “serving” in Vietnam.
Blumenthal is, I am afraid, toast.
And he has no one to blame but himself.

  3. Actually W did claimed that “he had been to war” and it was “easier than raising daughters” or something to that affect.

  4. After Dubya’s escapades in not even showing up for the guard, I wonder how much moral authority the repugs can muster on the difference between serving in Nam stateside or overseas.
Not to mention, I know many a vetran who wears their service on their shoulder, but on further information was a pencil-pusher somewhere. After all, they were a vital part of the supply chain. We couldn’t have done it without them. etc.
Of course, the repubs will try. And like others have noted, the big trouble with both him and Dubya is a question of honesty about their service. Plus getting a cushy assignment because daddy had connections (which also goes for a lot of McCain).

  5. Even though Dubya did not claim to have gone to Nam, he did make the preposterous claim that he sought to volunteer for Nam to show his bravery! Yeah sure.
But he actually may have wished to go since there were more and better drugs in Nam than at Yale.

That, again, is more bullshit from the lips of Shrub. Guess he forgot that on the form box that said “will you make yourself available for overseas duty?,” he checked “NO,” and that that form was part of his record obtained by FOIA. And, he kinda, sorta hinted that he’d been to Vietnam, because when he was asked about what he thought about how to conduct war, he said something akin to “what I learned in Vietnam,” which may have just been a conveniently poor choice of preposition, but, certainly gave the impression that he’d been there.

Oh, I think George’s mainstay was booze, and until Daddy had to get his butt out of a sling in Houston, cocaine, both easily available in the Houston area. He certainly had no need for psychedelics, since he has been orbiting somewhere east of the asteroid belt for a long, long time…

  7. Blumenthal has a ton of support in CT but it’s an inch deep because he is one boring ass son of a bitch. His ace in the hole was he was super respectable. Even little lies are going to ding him badly. If Connecticut elects that Republican WWE CEO loon as Senator they will really be pushing the envelope of complacent douchebaggery with their electoral choices. I was born and raised there but damn if Connecticut isn’t the armpit of New England.
