No unifying theme this week, I’m afraid – just random derpitude.

Let’s start with –Read it and sweep! (composite thread)

Republican Establishment Gloats After Primary Victories
Breitbart ^ | 05/06/14 | Tony Lee

Posted on 5‎/‎7‎/‎2014‎ ‎2‎:‎29‎:‎41‎ ‎AM by Viennacon

The Republican establishment gloated after three underfunded Tea Party challengers failed to knock off incumbent Republicans in primaries on Tuesday while another establishment-backed candidate secured the GOP nomination for Senate in North Carolina.

“Next up is that fraud @MattBevin! #GOP,” tweeted Jahan Wilcox, a former aide to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who is now the RNC’s director of rapid response. (He later deleted it and said his thoughts were his “personal opinions.”)

Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) defeated her primary challenger Frank Roche despite a series of high-profile outbursts in support of amnesty. Ellmers was heavily backed by Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg’s FWD.us group.

“Folks should be talking more about Ellmers,” tweeted Becky Tallent, a senior aide to Speaker John Boehner who formerly served as one of Sen. John McCain’s top amnesty lieutenants.

Boehner (R-OH) unsurprisingly coasted to victory against challenger J.D Winteregg. In response, Ana Navarro, the Jeb Bush ally, promptly tweeted,”Congratulations to @johnboehner on decisive primary win. Rumors of his demise were greatly exagerated…who’s crying now?”

Ohio freshman Rep. David Joyce defeated Matt Lynch, who was endorsed by FreedomWorks and Ron Paul, which prompted Brian Walsh, the former NRSC director of communications who still advises the group, to tweet, “BOOM.”

In the night’s main event, Tillis avoided what would have been a costly runoff to win the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate by securing more than 40% of the vote. He will take on vulnerable incumbent Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) in the fall. Tillis defeated Greg Brannon — who was backed by FreedomWorks, Rand Paul, the Senate Conservatives Fund, and nearly every local Tea Party group — and Mark Harris — who received the support of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Meanwhile, Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, Chamber of Commerce, and American Crossroads backed Tillis for the win.

And these people are relying on suckers to vote for them henceforth. Just listen to their sneering jibes. If you think these people will save America, you’re dead wrong.

Liberals circling the wagons? My friend, just look at some of the other threads here tonight. MASSIVE surge of pro-Karl Rove, anti-conservative sentiment. Not sure if these poindexters were sent over specifically from DU or if they are just the more insane McCain section of FreeRepublic rearing their ugly heads.

One thing is for sure, JimRob needs to get out the Zot, and set it to kill.

It’s beyond madness. The Establishment is right now tearing into conservatives, on the war path… and various Freepers are jumping on the bandwagon!

If this is not fixed, then FR will have transformed from a conservative site to a republican site… two very different things.

The official Tea Party groups are a bunch of hacks who spend money on themselves and give almost no money to candidates. They also do a terrible job in recruiting and vetting candidates. I have fought the “establishment” GOP all my life, but in Kansas the Tea Party is running an idiot.

Funny, after the endless stream of establishment candidates who got their butts handed to them in 2012, I was about to say the same about Karl Rove’s group. Let’s see where amateur hour really lies come general election day, when Mitch loses to Grimes and Tillis goes down like a lead balloon.

I think McConnnell may well lose to Grimes. Not my point, and be clear I support tea party folks. But it IS an amateur hour operation, with mostly weak, vulnerable candidates not properly vetted, because there are too many straw bosses — who mainly exist to make their principals rich (eg. Tea Party atriots, Tea Party Express, TeaParty.org which is a scam org, etc). There is NO “Tea Party” as there is a GOP. It is a loose amalgam of interests that cannot possibly hope to stop the GOPe at this point.

Agreed.

When the TP runs idiots for office, they are the Democratic gift out of Central Casting.

That TP-favored guy in Kansas won’t beat a Democrat. And the establishment is fed up and tired of taking it on the chin.

>> If the TP doesn’t up its game and recruit better candidates they will just become irrelevant and the Republicans will start sliding left again. <<

Your analysis is basically spot on.

The trouble as I see it, however, is this:

A concrete entity called “the TP” doesn’t really exist. What virtually everybody calls the “Tea Party” is actually a vague agglomeration that consists mainly of (a) sincere grassroots conservative voters; (b) DC-based fund raisers, some of whom are probably no more than scam artists; and (c) political amateurs at the local level, many of whom yearn prematurely for national attention before they’ve earned their spurs in retail politics.

“retail poitics”? That’s the GOP in a nutshell. I’m filing that one.

Therefore IMHO, it’s probably something of a pipe dream to suppose that such an agglomeration — no matter how sincere and dedicated its grassroots supporters may be — can ever truly “up its game and recruit better candidates.”

‘Militia’ groups fear infiltration by feds at Bundy Ranch

Posted on 4‎/‎23‎/‎2014‎ ‎12‎:‎59‎:‎33‎ ‎PM by Rusty0604

Former Bundy guard Frank Lindysthe says it is all very troubling.

“They are now calling for militia. They’re not in dug in positions, they are sitting on top of ridges. They don’t have night vision capability,” he said.

Lindysthe left the ranch in the middle of the night after at least two men tried joining the guard. He said the men made him uncomfortable.

“The people that are up there, they have a certain look about them. These are military. My belief is federal agents,” he said.

Lindysthe feels the alleged federal agents are there to gather information on militia members and eventually conduct a raid.

“They’re dirty. They’re dirty,” he said.

Stephen Colbert to Replace David LettermanThe Wrap ^ | 4/10/2014 | Tony Maglio

Posted on 4‎/‎10‎/‎2014‎ ‎11‎:‎15‎:‎25‎ ‎AM by Carpe Cerevisi

CBS has named Stephen Colbert as new host of the “Late Show,” effective when David Letterman retires.

Here is the press release:

The CBS Television Network today announced that Stephen Colbert, the host, writer and executive producer of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning “The Colbert Report,” will succeed David Letterman as the host of THE LATE SHOW, effective when Mr. Letterman retires from the broadcast. The five-year agreement between CBS and Colbert was announced by Leslie Moonves, President and CEO, CBS Corporation, and Nina Tassler, Chairman of CBS Entertainment.

I didn’t think so.
Come on, you guys – you need to fight the stereotype of “the old white guy who doesn’t watch no TV excepting Fox, and what the hell is a social media anyway?”

To: Carpe Cerevisi

Is there any practical difference between the two?
‘Haven’t watched Letterman since his first or second season on late night; have never seen Colbert except at the White House Correspondents Dinner when he was utterly tasteless attacking Pres. Bush (43). So why start watching now? Ain’t gonna happen.

They want the “hipster” audience anyway, not this old fogie.

“The CBS Television Network today announced that Stephen Colbert, the host, writer and executive producer of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning “The Colbert Report,” will succeed David Letterman as the host of THE LATE SHOW…”

Steven Colbert won a PEABODY AWARD? Is that not an award for “public service” and/or “journalism”? Hello? “The Steven Colbert Report” is SATIRE, and unbalanced satire at that. How does that serve the public interests?
