Favorite comfort food?
Between a hideous back injury that knocked me out the first half of February, and back-to-back colds/flu/respiratory infections since what feels like November, I’ve lost about 10 pounds. BEST DIET EVER! It’s actually terrible, in that yeah, clothes fit again but I feel like shit all the time. Food doesn’t appeal in any way.
What do you like to eat when you’re feeling run down or need something cozy?
A.
mashed potatoes + gravy. pork best, beef + turkey can be tied.
and there has to be lumps!
French fries from Popeye’s Fried Chicken…they can almost cure a hangover by themselves. If they don’t give you a heart attack first.
I put cheese on bread and run it under the broiler until it gets bubbly – if I’ve got a cold, I’ll put hot sauce and salsa on top.
Potatoes and gravy — no contest. Now, nightshade family allergic, I have to settle for mashed white sweet potatoes. Failing that? Kraft Mac & Cheese — my last junk food rampart.
Chile verde: best comfort food evah. During my New Mexico years, I learned to put potatoes in my chile verde, and that’s still the way I make it.
Either biscuits and gravy, or beef burgundy over parsley-butter wide egg noodles. Or sometimes I’ll toast a big slice of french bread, butter it, rub it with a clove of garlic, and then ladle the beef burgundy over it in a bowl. Yum….
Hot buttered toast.
Toast and tea. And when start to feel better, chicken noodle soup in the envelope!
