Saturday Odds & Sods: Time Has Come Today

We begin with a brief health update. I had my blood drawn and all my iron levels were normal. I’m still not operating on all cylinders but I’m at least 85% back to normal. It’s a great relief for all concerned. Thanks to Dr. A and my docs for taking such good care of me.

The weather in New Orleans has been weird. November is usually the nicest month of the year, but temps have been in the 80’s and the humidity has been tenacious. We’re finally getting some relief but gimme some autumn, man.

I have time change insomnia. I’m waking up too damn early every damn day. Shit is hard enough without this shit. Fuck that shit.

This week’s theme song was written in 1968 by Willie and Joe Chambers. It’s been oft covered and used in many movies; most notably in Coming Home where director Hal Ashby used the entire 11 minute album version during the scene when Bruce Dern comes home from Vietnam to Jane Fonda.

We have three versions of Time Has Come Today for your listening pleasure: the Chambers Brothers hit single, the extended album track, and a swell cover by Steve Earle with Sheryl Crow.

For our featured image, I have yet again un-memed a picture used in my election coverage: Harold Lloyd in Safety Last. Tick tock, motherfuckers.

Speaking of timely time tunes, let’s take a trip on the Jersey Turnpike:

Here’s another time tune. It was my earworm as I wrote this post:

If you’re expecting a second act, you’re SOL. All I got for you is another timeless time tune as the last word of a non-existent second act:

Thanks, Cyndi.

We begin our third act with our favorite stolen feature.

Separated At Birth: Cassandra reminded me of this pairing the other day. I give you Butt-Head and the least qualified Attorney General nominee in American history:

Gaetz is not just Attorney General Jonah Ryan, he’s Botox Boy. His face reminds me of Walter Brennan’s stock line in To Have and Have Not:

Your Weekly Oscar: This week, two OP time tunes for the price of one.

Have I told you lately how much I love Oscar Peterson? I’m pretty fond of this fella too:

The Best Of Peabody & Sherman: The time theme continues with the Wayback Machine gang. I realized they called it the WABAC machine, I prefer my variation. Who’s gonna sue me: A cartoon dog?

Celebrity Ad Corner: Remember when the Insult Comedian riffed on Arnold Palmer’s pecker? In addition to his dry cleaning business, Arnie did his share of ads. In this one he plugs Rolex watches.

An ad featuring an American sports icon calls for some American music:

Saturday GIF Horse: I searched in vain for a GIF featuring Salvador Dali’s melting clock image from The Persistence Of Memory. I did, however, find this one with his mustache and eyes doing weird shit.

Let’s close down this virtual honky tonk with some more music.

Saturday Closer: Set the Wayback Machine to 10/20/1994 with a clip featuring one of Pink Floyd’s rockingest tunes. Is that a word? I feel like I’m on rocky ground there.

That’s all for this week. The last word goes to Ray Milland in The Big Clock:
