Destroying The Country To Save It: Tariffs Are Taxes

Welcome to a new recurring feature. Initially, I planned to use a picture of Burgess Meredith as The Penguin as my small contribution to all the penguin memes out there. But when I saw this still of Meredith, Caesar Romero, and Frank Gorshin I had a change of heart and plans.

I’ve already written three posts about the madness of the Trump trade war. It’s time to take self-linking to the next level:

Quote Of The Day: Trudeau On The Trump Tariffs

The Looming Trumpcession

Exhuming McKinley

The Kaiser of Chaos believes in only three things: himself, money, and tariffs. He’s taken the latter obsession to an extreme. I concur with Josh Marshall that this will  be a political disaster for Republicans. The candidate who promised to lower egg prices is espousing policies that will fuel inflation and may lead to stagflation. I lived through the Nixon stagflation of the 1970’s and it was no picnic. Believe me.

These moves on the economy are both reckless and stupid. I assumed that President Pennywise would take credit for the Biden economy but that would make too much sense. His four years out of power were spent lying about the economy being the worst in world history. He’s out to make himself look like a prophet with the loss going to ordinary people. Pun intended. It always is.

Cartoon villains come in handy right now:

The Penguin stands for tariffs that will effect small countries with large penguin populations.

The Joker stands for the clownish malevolence of the Insult Comedian.

As to The Riddler, riddle me this: Why is Team MAGA destroying the country to save it?

This new series is inspired by this infamous Vietnam War era quote reported by crack war correspondent Peter Arnett:

It worked so well in Vietnam. #sarcasm

Repeat after me: Tariffs are taxes.

The last word goes to Frank Zappa and the Mothers:

Instead of a penguin, America has an economy in bondage to the Kaiser of Chaos and Reich Chancellor Musk.

  1. Not sure what the featured picture is from, but it’s apparent that being a supervillain requires gloves.
