The Alligator Alcatraz Abomination

Just when you thought Republicans couldn’t get any tackier:

“The Florida Republican Party is selling merchandise promoting its new migrant detention camp in the Florida Everglades. Dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” by its proponents, Republicans are salivating at the prospect of subjecting undocumented migrants to brutal conditions in giant plastic tents situated in the oppressive heat and humidity of backwater Florida.

“The feds have greenlit Alligator Alcatraz — Florida’s gator-guarded, python-patrolled prison for illegal aliens who thought they could game the system,” reads a fundraising email from the Florida GOP. “Surrounded by miles of swamp and bloodthirsty wildlife, this ain’t no vacation spot. It’s a one-way ticket to regret for criminals who’ll wish they’d self-deported”

“Every shirt, hat, or koozie you grab funds our push to keep Florida tough on crime, and tougher on borders,” the email reads. Shirts for sale feature what looks to be an AI generated image of a prison in a swamp, with a python and an alligator in the foreground. Koozies and hats are also for sale.”

This is an excellent illustration of the difficulty that MAGA maggots have in distinguishing between fantasy and reality. Their whole movement is based on a series of elaborate lies and fantasies. No wonder everything they do sounds like something out of a low budget Roger Corman film from the Fifties. That decade has gotten a bad rap as a time of stagnation: Instead, the Fifties were an era of penal reform, so a Corman movie called The Alligator Alcatraz would have been anti-torture. American prisons aren’t supposed to be torture chambers, especially when the detainees are not criminals.

By selling tacky T-shirts and flimsy koozies, Florida Republicans are making money off  human misery. They don’t care about the human wreckage the MAGA Gestapo DBA ICE leaves in its wake. Family destruction? That’s tough, they should have had their papers in order. That sounds like something out of the Third Reich. A reminder: It was supposed to last a thousand years. It lasted for twelve.

Cruelty is a crucial component of the MAGA movement. A less commented upon component is sadism. The Insult Comedian and his followers take pleasure in the suffering of others, especially THE OTHER. Trump visited the Alligator Alcatraz earlier this week and engaged in loose talk about investigating and arresting his opponents. Cosplay Kristi and Ron DeSantis found it amusing. I do not nor should any decent American. Decency is in short supply among MAGA maggots. It’s nonexistent among Florida GOPers. See, Bondi, Pam.

It’s not just the cruelty, it’s the sadism.

Florida is home to many theme parks. The Florida GOP views the Alligator Alcatraz as a penal theme park. They can give the Kaiser of Chaos what he wants: His very own Alcatraz since he’s abandoned the fakakta idea of reopening the original Alcatraz. At least I got a good post title out of that mishigas, Birdbrain Of Alcatraz.

The Trumps are in it for the money. The Florida GOP is merely following their bad example.

Everything is for sale. Nothing is sacred.

MAGA celebrates the tacky, tasteless, and tawdry. That’s why they think making money off human suffering is okay. It is not. The Alligator Alcatraz is an abomination. It’s also the perfect distillation of the MAGA ethos: It’s not just the cruelty, it’s the sadism.

Let’s lighten things up with the last word. It goes to Zachary Richard:

  1. Alligator Auschwitz. Some argue that that minimizes the Holocaust but with the demonization and dehumanization of immigrants and now setting up the “camps” there is a straight road we’re on if we don’t nip this in the bud tout d’suite. Drumpf probably doesn’t care one way or another as long as it doesn’t affect his bottom line, but there are others he’s put in power who would probably gladly go down that road and he’s happy to encourage them if it stirs up his supporters. He’s talking about having these facilities in every state. Does anyone believe that if they magically deported all the immigrants that they would let all those available beds go to waste?
