With the commutation of George Santos’ sentence, the Kaiser of Chaos continues to signal that if you support him, you can steal as much or as often as you please. Why should he be the only pig feasting at the trough?
Check out this list of pardons and commutations:
Over his two terms, Mr. Trump has pardoned or commuted the sentences of a raft of former Republican members of the House. Among those receiving such grants were Duke Cunningham, of California, who was convicted of taking over $2 million in bribes, among other crimes; Duncan Hunter, also of California, who pocketed thousands of dollars of campaign contributions and spent it on extramarital affairs; Rick Renzi, of Arizona, who was convicted of racketeering and extortion; Robin Hayes, of North Carolina, who lied to investigators in a bribery investigation; Chris Collins, of New York, who pleaded guilty to insider trading and false statements; Michael Grimm, also of New York, who pleaded guilty to tax evasion and also admitted in court that he committed perjury and hired undocumented immigrants; John Rowland, of Connecticut, a former governor as well as congressman, who pleaded guilty to election fraud after going to prison years earlier in a separate scandal; and Steve Stockman, of Texas, who was released after serving only two years of a 10-year sentence for stealing upward of $1 million.”
Donald Trump is not only an Insult Comedian with a dead nutria pelt atop his head, he’s a human get out of jail free card. In a word: Disgusting.
In another word:
Because of my lifelong fascination with imposters and con artists, I came early to the George Santos story. It began with a malaka of the week post, followed by a post comparing him to the Talented Mr. Ripley. My interest waxed with The Talented Mr. Santos Pop Quiz, then waned as the story dragged on.
Santos’ cons were interesting, he is not: Santos is just a petty grifter with delusions of grandeur. That makes him a typical MAGA maggot on the make. If he weren’t a Trumper, he’d be on Stephen Miller’s deportation list.
Santos is on the loose after serving only 84 days of an 87-month sentence for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. These are serious crimes unworthy of a quick commutation: Impunity thy nickname is President Pennywise. Thanks, Chief Justice Roberts.
Presumably, Santos is through with electoral politics. I say that with some hesitation because the world has gone mad, so a comeback is possible. Perhaps he’ll try the MAGA crook trick, move to Florida, and run for office there. It’s what the aforementioned MAGA crooks Chris Collins and Michael Grimm have done.
Unless he does something newsworthy, this is my last whack at the Talented Mr. Santos. Trump’s commuting his sentence is a national disgrace but so is his presidency. It amounts to professional courtesy from one con artist to another. Oy, just oy.
Repeat after me: The MAGA patrimonialism, it burns.
