From the mash notes e-mail he sends me:

WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator John Kerry announced today that he intends to fight any renewed effort to open ANWR to oil drilling or exploration. Alaska ‘s two senators have said that they will again try to open up the state’s 1.5 million acre pristine wilderness to oil rigs as part of the Senate’s debate this week on energy legislation.

“It’s déjà vu all over again when it comes to proposals to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and I’m as committed to defeating it this time as I was the last seven years,” Kerry said. “Drilling in the Refuge is a terrible idea that a majority in both houses of Congress have already gone on record opposing. I feel strongly enough about this that I will filibuster the amendment and force those who want to drill in the Artic refuge to find at least 60 votes. I hope they take the hint and drop this ill-conceived idea. By now it should be clear to everyone that we can’t drill our way towards energy independence.”

  1. Hard to believe how bone-headed those oil company flacks are, aint it? Too bad Kerry didn’t have this much conviction a few years ago!

  2. It’s just hard, darned hard, to be sympatico to the oil companies who want to drill in ANWAR and not use their tax benefits to increase refining capabilities, which they(the benefits) were intended for. Not to metion the costs of food in this country skyrocketing since the oil companies are embracing ethanol, thanks so much Jeb Bush. By tying the cost of a major source of nutrition to the cost of oil, we the consumers, are going to get screwed every way and any which way. Something like 80+% of all our pre-fab’d foodstuffs are corn based, i.e., high fructose corn syrup, and like 99% of all our market animals feed is corn based. Food, energy and Pharm corps will own 99% of the world’s population in a generation… This bodes ill for all people everywhere.
I’m depressed and have no idea how to counterbalance any of this. My only recourse is that each of us must grow our own “Victory Gardens”. Or maybe I mean, our own “V for Vendetta” gardens.
