This Is Some Bullshit Right Here

Wait, this is offensive? I had no idea!

Just when you think they can’t get any lower, they do.

When these motherfuckers hit bottom, they grab shovels and start digging.

What am I talking about, you ask? Why, more racist bullshit from the Republicans, of course:

A San Bernardino County Republican group has distributed a
newsletter picturing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on
a $10 bill adorned with a watermelon, ribs and a bucket of fried
chicken.

Linking Obama to demeaning racist stereotypes drew denunciations
from various GOP officials after the illustration appeared in the
October newsletter of the Chaffey Community Republican Women,
Federated, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported Thursday.

Diane Fedele, president of the group, said she had no racist intent.

“I never connected,” she told the newspaper. “It was just food to me. It didn’t mean anything else.”

The Obama campaign declined to comment, saying it does not address such attacks.

The newsletter was sent to about 200 club members and associates
last week by mail and e-mail. The club is a volunteer group that is not
directly responsible to the state party, said California Republican
Party press secretary Hector Barajas, who denounced the newsletter.

Fedele said she had received the illustration in e-mails and decided
to reprint it to poke fun at a remark by Obama that he doesn’t look
like other presidents.

“It was strictly an attempt to point out the outrageousness of his
statement. I really don’t want to go into it any further,” Fedele told
the newspaper. “I absolutely apologize to anyone who was offended. That
clearly wasn’t my attempt.”

Sheila Raines of San Bernardino, a black member of the club, complained about the image to Fedele.

“This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the Republican Party,” she said. “I’m really hurt. I cried for 45 minutes.”

Yeah. It’s shit like that why black people don’t join the Republican Party. That, and all the other racist shit they’ve been shoveling for the last forty years.

Note that this didn’t happen in some red-state backwater where you’d expect blatant racism, or in some area like, say, Montana, where you never see any black people.. Oh, no. This racist bullshit cropped up in San Bernardino, California–where almost 20% of the population is African-American.

Weepin’ Jesus on the Cross.

Is Diane Fedele really that stupid? If so, how does she remember to breathe when she’s asleep at night?

  1. Jude, the southern california republicans are especially stupid. How stupid are they? Back when they held a numerical majority in the California State Assembly (this was years ago — I think it was the Assembly), they managed to elect a Democrat as the Speaker. And not just any Democrat — they elected Willie Brown.
I am sure that they have all sorts of random excuses for how Willie Brown is one dastardly tricky guy (and he’s black, too, and he might be “eloquent”), but the long and short of it is, they had a majority, and could not elect someone from their own party as speaker. They’re that stupid, and I don’t know what else to call it.

  2. Jude, I don’t think she’s that stupid – I think she things we’re that stupid, that we’ll believe her lame excuse.
Seriously, though, the one I’ve got to wonder about is the woman who cried for 45 minutes – lady, when they show you who they are, BELIEVE THEM. Then tender your resignation from their little “association” and vote Obama.

  3. I’m with Leinie on this one… I don’t for a minute believe this Rethug woman who said it was not her intent to offend — she intended it, she just didn’t intend to get caught or exposed… same Rethug MO every time! And the African American woman who cried? “Lady, when they show you who they are, BELIEVE THEM. Then tender your resignation from their little “association” and vote Obama.” AMEN.

  4. This is why when the Republicans talked about a permanent majority, it was a pipe dream. They just can’t help alienating the people who could make it happen.
I know these people. They’re the woman I used to work for, who was really, really nice as long as you didn’t stand in the way of her ambition. Once you did, all bets were off.
The saddest thing, in her case, was that there were a lot of people who would have been perfectly happy to help her achieve her goals, but she stepped on too many of them with her stiletto heels on her way up. We were all perfectly happy to step aside to watch her slide down.
There’s nothing sad about what’s happening to the Republicans now. Just schadenfreude.

  5. Children know that the whole watermelon, ribs and fried chicken thing is racist. This woman has no excuse. Oh, yes, she certainly knew what she was doing, and had no shame about doing it. She still doesn’t.
That’s the face of the Republican party, all right. Disgusting.

  6. “Watermelons and fried chicken racist? Why, land o’Goshen, next thing you’ll be saying my lil Nigra lawn jockey is offensive. Y’all are too sensitive.”
    —random Republican pinhead

  7. I believe Rachel Maddow showed the actual item on her show last night. It wasn’t a 10 dollar bill, it was a welfare voucher.

  8. Republicans may be stupid, after all they selected Palin as a VP candidate. But, their primary attribute is utter dishonesty. The lady was lying. Republicans routinely lie. They can’t acknowledge the truth about their party, so they lie, about everything.
The truth, incidentally, is that it is a party dedicated to enriching the tiny percentage of them who are obscenely wealthy. They achieve power by convincing rubes that they too would be wealthy if not for the damn taxes, and that it is minorities and women who are the enemy in this country. The latter tactic always works because humans are hardwired to want scapegoats.

  9. Does KFC or Kraft Foods know their images have been appropriated for racist literature?

  10. i gotta wonder about sheila. ut then you are off in the head is you are republikan.
heck, the daily show had it right about undecideds.

  11. I think this is actually the best assessment of Ms. Fedele’s self awareness or “ontheballitude”:
Fedele said she […]decided to reprint it to poke fun at a remark by Obama that he doesn’t look like other presidents.
“It was strictly an attempt to point out the outrageousness of his statement[…]

Um…in what way was Obama’s comment in any way “outrageous”? Even out of context, it’s 100% true and not derogatory in any way. In context, when I heard it, it came across as good-natured self-deprecation (same as the “skinny kid with the name” comments), and seemed to point to “wow–look how far we’ve come.”
Hillary Clinton could make the same comment…so could Sarah Palin.
    WTF is this woman smoking?
