That’s true. Not that I think the Republicans would have felt an ounce of shame if McCain had managed to squeak out a win using those disgusting tactics (to be a Republican, I think you have to remove the part of the brain that feels shame), but I would have felt that Obama’s victory was at least a little tarnished if he’d gotten down in the gutter with McCain.
He did it his way, and he won. We Americans are able to recognize the difference between a negative, dirty, ugly campaign, and one run with principles, and sometimes — yesterday, for instance — we even reward the good guys.
