Malaka Of The Week: Chief Twit

I had no interest in Elon Musk or his Twitter takeover until I heard he was styling himself Chief Twit. Since I’m not a dedicated follower of Elon, I assumed that this meant that English was not his first language. Surely, someone who is a native speaker wouldn’t call themselves a twit. I was wrong. It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last.

I’m not sure if the Musky one is really a twit. He’s certainly an attention whore and an asshole as well as another word familiar to our readers. And that is why Elon Musk Chief Twit is malaka of the week.

I was among those who reckoned that Musk’s Twitter gambit was another bid for attention. As my colleague Jamie O aptly put it, Elon Musk is a troll. I assumed the deal wouldn’t go through since he was overpaying.

Repeat after me: I was wrong. It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last.

Presumably, Musk doesn’t want to burn his money but even after purging top executives, his intentions are unclear. Slate’s Alex Kirshner has a thoughtful take on the Twitter takeover:

For his many faults, Musk did not reach his perch in life by doing bad business to win political points. He makes those points when they’re cheap, and when they make him feel good, like when he didn’t actually own Twitter but could talk about what he’d do if he did. Now, Twitter’s gains and losses are his own. He could be rich enough to not mind lighting a many-billion-dollar investment on fire. That would be a change of pace, though. Something much more normal would be if Twitter remained a lot like it has always been, just with one narcissist dictating how it changes policy instead of a more varied board of directors with diffuse power. Maybe, after years of striving, Twitter can be more like Facebook after all.

As far as I’m concerned, the Tweeter Tube is already a hell site full of opinionated people who don’t know what they’re talking about. Those people put the twit in Twitter long before Elon Musk turned it into his personal plaything. The only way he could make it worse is to readmit the Impeached Insult Comedian who is in Twitter jail and belongs in real jail.

The Descendents have a few choice words about Trump and Twitter for Chief Twit to chew on.

It’s a pity that song isn’t titled Asshole Twitter Troll but that’s the breaks.

A quick reminder to the Chief Twit that this is what twittery is all about:

Does Chief Twit want to be added to that rogue’s gallery or does he want to make money? Beats the hell outta me but it’s hard to picture him as a free speech martyr. And that is why Elon Musk Chief Twit is malaka of the week.
