Let’s get started:
During a Tuesday debate, GOP state Senator Mike Moon suggested that children as young as 12 should have the right to marry as long as they have parental consent while arguing a bill he introduced to block gender-affirming care for transgender minors throughout Missouri.
Criticized by his colleague, Democratic state Representative Peter Meredith, for an earlier vote in which Moon voted against changing state laws to raise the minimum marrying age, Moon asked Meredith, “Do you know any kids who have been married at age 12? I do. And guess what? They’re still married.”
They’re still married because they are bonded in trauma and abuse, dude. And this isn’t the first time he’s brought up a couple he met when he was in college, so you know he thinks about being married to a 12 year old from time to time. Gross.
Staying in Missouri where the state legislature passed a law in August 2022 to strengthen the rights of sexual assault victims. OK, that sounds like a good thing, right? Nope, not when the extremists are around. The bill was amended to include a ban on providing sexually explicit materials to students, effectively banning hundreds of books.
The Missouri Library Association sued the legislature on the basis that that new law is unconstitutional, and the state House of Representatives voted to strip all public funding of libraries from the new budget. (The state Senate is expected to restore it.) Your priorities say a lot about you, and a bunch of radicals desperate to keep anything about sex from minors says something very unappealing about Missouri Republicans.
Texas has also jumped into the defund libraries movement, with its state Senate voting to strip funding from libraries that hold drag queen story hours for children. I get confused a lot about what people are supposed to do when they encounter things that they don’t like because in the case of drag queen story hour, Republicans tell us they can’t exist, but in cases of people slurring women, people of color, or LGBTQ people we’re told to just “suck it up”.
Donna Mooney is a school board member in Michigan. Recently she had a lot to say about diversity and inclusion, and not wanting to have others push their values on her. Her rant included this gem:
Conservative Christians make up a very diverse population…and are entitled to live comfortably in their majority communities without having the values of others forced upon them.
In the meantime, they’re happy to push their crap on us though. Thom and the boys can have the last word:
Story out of Oregon this week about a woman who wants to be a foster mom. Yay! Decent, responsible people should be foster parents if they can. One little itty-bitty problem, though. She can’t/won’t sign the application because it insists she respect, accept and support each child’s sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. But she’s a Christian! So, no. Now she’s suing the state so that she can force her own values on any kids luckless enough to be placed with her.
they’re all looking for their 15 minutes of fake discrimination fame.
Such sickening hypocrisy and idiocy! My hatred for the GOP and Republicans only grows deeper by the day!
