In this installment, we take a look at one of the most important reasons to vote against the crook: The Supreme Court.
I’ve long argued that SCOTUS appointments are one of the most important powers of the presidency. President Biden did well with his first appointment of KBJ, but the Convicted Insult Comedian appointed the three justices shown in the featured image: Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.
Gorsuch holds the seat stolen from Merrick Garland by Mitch McConnell. Kavanaugh’s nomination was nearly defeated because he was a pervy drunk as a high school kid. We all remember the horrors of Trump relacing RBG with ACB. The good news is that Justice Barrett has shown signs of moving from the far-right to the center-right. That’s the best we can hope for with the Federalist Society Pharaohs of SCOTUS.
Repeat after me: Don’t call the right-wing Justices conservatives. Conservatives respect precedent, the GOP appointed super majority does not.
Four of the sitting Justices are sixty-nine or older. Joe Biden recently pointed out that the next POTUS could appoint at least two new members of SCOTUS. Does any sane person want the Kaiser of Chaos to have five appointees?
For decades, centrist justices dominated the court. Many to my left dislike centrists but justices such as Lewis Powell, Sandra Day O’Connor, and Anthony Kennedy kept SCOTUS from moving too far to the right. They were all Republican appointees as were Harry Blackmun, John Paul Stevens, and David Souter all of whom moved from the center-right to the center-left during their time on the bench. Those three justices waited to retire until a Democrat could appoint their replacement. Those days are gone with the Federalist Society wind. Mitch McConnell saw to that.
It’s imperative that Democratic voters put the Supreme Court at the top of reasons to vote for the Biden-Harris ticket and NOT revert to their old habits of ignoring SCOTUS as an issue. If the Convicted Insult Comedian returns to office, there will be hell to pay: he’s likely to appoint justices to the right of Thomas and Alito. It would be hard to top them when it comes to corruption but Trump will give it the old stable genius try and find the sleaziest appointees possible. He may even reward Judge Aileen Cannon for her service to the MAGA cause.
Repeat after me: The Supreme Court is on the ballot. Vote against the crook, it’s important.
