Bobby Junior: Born Again Bircher

Peter Sellers and Sterling Hayden discuss precious bodily fluids.

The John Birch Society was established in 1958. It’s a right-wing extremist group that found reds under every bed back then including General President Dwight David Eisenhower. That’s right, Ike was a commie according to these nutbars.

The Birchers also stood firm against water fluoridation, which they believe was a commie plot to destroy America. It didn’t work but this crackpot theory led to this hilarious scene in Dr. Strangelove between Peter Sellers and Sterling Hayden:

Dr. Strangelove is the gift to satire that keeps on giving as is Bobby Junior:

“Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Saturday that among the first acts of a second Trump administration would be to “advise all U.S. water systems to remove fluoride from public water,” a stunning potential reversal of what is widely considered one of the most important public health interventions of the past century.

The statement, posted on social media, is among the more concrete pledges made by Mr. Kennedy — a former independent presidential candidate who is now backing Mr. Trump — in his capacity as a top adviser on Mr. Trump’s transition team. It also raises the specter of an all-out assault on public-health expertise should Mr. Trump win next week’s election, a prospect that has already caused significant alarm among experts across the medical and environmental fields.

As president, Mr. Trump would not have the power to order states and municipalities to remove fluoride from their water supplies; fluoridation is a matter of local control.”

Yo, Bobby Junior, fluoride is a naturally occurring substance. Dentists dig it, crackpots like you do not.

Bobby Junior is living proof that the Horseshoe Theory is for real:

“The horseshoe theory is a political science theory that outlines the shape of the political spectrum. It assigns different ideologies (and variations of those ideologies) certain positions on the political horseshoe. While all political ideologies are given a place on the horseshoe political spectrum, the theory was created to examine the closeness and similarities between the far-left and the far-right.

In political horseshoe theory, the extremes of the political spectrum (far-left and far-right) are not as far apart as they seem. Most models illustrate the spectrum as a straight line, but this model states that it is a horseshoe, with far-left and far-right occupying roughly the same vertical position. This theory was advocated and popularized in 2002 by Jean-Pierre Faye, who is a prominent French political philosopher.”

We have a somewhat shoddy  graphic

That’s Bobby Junior in a wingnut shell. And this is the guy the Kaiser of Chaos wants to let run wild with our health care system. It’s a good thing they’re losing.

The irony of Bobby Junior as a born again Bircher is that the Birchers hated his father and Uncle Jack. Much of their animus towards liberals was directed at the Kennedy brothers. Uncle Ted became an instant target when he became a Senator. It’s another example of Bobby Junior’s repudiating the family legacy. Jack, Bobby, and Ted weep.

I have a relevant personal story from my misspent youth. I came home one day and heard my father yelling at one of his oldest friends. Lou threw him out of the house, which is something that’s anathema to my family and never happened again.

I asked Dad what happened. His face was flushed with anger. He shook his head and said: “The son-of-a-bitch is a Bircher and tried to recruit me.”

Eisenhower was Lou’s hero. The idea that Ike was a commie offended him. He and his Bircher friend never spoke again.

That’s how I know my Republican father would not be a Trumper if he were alive today. It’s also why I favor a coalition in 2024 with anti-Trump Republicans. It’s called putting country over party.

Bobby Junior is an idiot. Vote against his crackpot ideas, it’s important.
