I Don’t Need No Doctor

I originally planned this post as a celebratory comment on the victory that never came. It still works as a cautionary tale: “I don’t need no doctor ’cause I know what’s ailing me.”

It’s the election, stupid.

The featured image is of Humble Pie circa 1971 with Peter Frampton on the left. They recorded my favorite version of this week’s tune.

I Don’t Need No Doctor was written in 1966 by Nick Ashford, Valerie Simpson, and Jo Armstead.

We begin with the co-writer:

Ray Charles. Say no more.

Let’s eat some Humble Pie, then rock.

Peter Frampton left Humble Pie because, as long as Steve Marriott was in the band, he could never be the lead singer. This is a live version 28 years later.

Here’s jazz great John Scofield with John Mayer on lead vocals:

Finally, one of my favorite chick singers, Joan Osborne.

What would the Friday Cocktail Hour be without an instrumental version of the week’s tune? This time, drum demigod Sandy Nelson.

That’s it for this week. Let’s toast everyone who voted for the Harris-Walz ticket. It’s what Governor Coach Tim would want. Never argue with him.
