The Attention Hoarder Strikes Again

Earlier I wrote about South Carolina House rep Nancy Mace because she was trying to make something that wasn’t about her (the Speaker of the House election) all about her. She even had a sad sack prop ready to go:

You may also remember Mace as the person who claimed she was the victim of a hate crime because her house and property were graffitied. The weird thing about that is, first, the perpetrator had the same handwriting tics she has, and, second, she posted a photo of herself in the kitchen earlier that day with the same color spray paint can on her counter:

Mace as of late has been going full bore with some very distasteful transphobic garbage. On Tuesday she moved into using the police as a threat against people who disagree with her:

The incident took place outside a House of Representatives office building following an event honoring the anniversary of a landmark child welfare law where Mace, a firebrand Republican, had given a speech. Three witnesses at the scene told The Imprint their accused colleague James McIntyre had done nothing more than shake the congress member’s hand at the House reception, and asked her to protect the rights of transgender people.

But in a post on the social media platform X, Rep. Mace described a violent confrontation.

“I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man. One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine,” she posted at 8:43 p.m. “The Capitol police arrested the guy. Your tr*ns violence and threats on my life will only make me double down.”

The arrest stunned onlookers.

Now of course Mace wasn’t attacked, and several witnesses have said so. But later on Tuesday McIntyre was arrested.

For fuck’s sake.

And on Wednesday, this is how Mace turned up for work at the Capitol:

There’s got to be video of the encounter, right? It happened in the Capitol. And the police report certainly points to Mace’s being a liar:

So entirely predictably Mace not only faked an injury in a total sitcom-ish way she also got police to arrest a completely innocent person with her stunt.

Mace annoys the shit out of me at a very basic level. But lately she has decided to be the nastiest transphobic asshole alive. And now she’s banking on her status as a federal legislator to protect her from being charge with making a false report. Just thinking about the amount of attention this grown woman demands on a daily basis is exhausting. I wrote about how Republicans have a messed up relationship with their families and friends and her behavior is yet another example of this serious dysfunction.

On one hand, she is an easy target for mockery. On the other, she is quickly becoming a danger to trans people. And there’s no one in the GOP to get her to back down.

This seems like the right song for this:
