  1. Scout, enjoy. Anyone who reads this book will understand a little more how wonderful and crazy folks from New Orleans are and how absolutely great new Orleans jazz is. The writer, as a young, white boy, learned to play his clarinet from the best of the old black “mens”, as the musicians called themselves, and had the privilege of joining them to play in the early days at Preservation Hall.
