A Very Special Episode of Buffy: Galactica Thread

Spoilers, as always, are the risk you take for clicking through.

Okay, look. I’ve got nothing against the tertiary character ep, in fact I was glad to see the show get back to tightly plotted stuff about hot girls kicking ass and taking names in space. So I’m just saying, if we must do tertiary characters, why can we not do Doc Cottle? I don’t like having to resort to fanfic to get my Cottle backstory fix.

Baltar. You greasy, skeevy, glorious freak. That guy’s whole life has been interpreting the statements of others to mean he’s awesome, so this was really no different. Someone more familiar than I with the concept of Oracles will have to tell me more about that scene, but all I could think was, “Of course, squirrel nut. Crazy Bathtub Chick is babbling out loud and you think it’s God.” That it might be, is the least fracked thing about it.

Kat and Starbuck. Here’s the thing about Starbuck. She’s always justified her bullshit by saying it was just honesty, that because she was up front about being an asshole that made it more okay than somebody who hid it away, like Lee, who stuffs his passive-aggressive crap deep down inside and sees a virtue Starbuck would call twisted in behaving like a grown-up (most of the time). So when she told Kat to be who she was, I don’t think she meant go frack your drug dealer and kill yourself, though certainly that’d be in keeping with the Kat we knew and loved in Season One (or was it 2.1? I get confused). I think she meant, look, be fracked up to our faces and we’ll respect that but when you’re lying to us we’re not equals, we can’t share that, because we don’t know, and there was not a little love in her saying that. Some stuff went on between those two between Scar and today, and I’ll leave it to your lurid imaginations as to what that was.

I loved Adama and Kat at the end. He loves the pilots, it’s where he started out, and it gives a nice little shout-out to the way he is with Starbuck and the way he was with Boomer, that they’re his maybe more than any other group of people in the fleet.

Can we get more loving flashbacks to Roslin and Adama on New Caprica, as long as I’m putting in requests?

  1. I’m loving grease boy being more than a little convinced he’s a cylon and not being sure whether he’s happy about that or not.
I hope the whole crazy bathtub chick storyline doesn’t wander off into da vinci codeland. that would be teh suck.

You notice how that’s all girl pilots? Has he ever had a moment like that with one of the boyz?
Well, the writers said they were gonna kill off characters this season. They weren’t lying. Wonder if anyone else goes next week.
I think my show is back. Just in time for the season finale…

I never thought that till tonight. But that quarter-inch of airspace between their two faces read more like that than just Starbuck getting all up in her grill because she’d broken some pilot code of honor. Plus I don’t think even Starbuck thinks she has any room left to lecture someone else on morality.
I don’t exactly know what I think about this episode yet. It could just be that I’m in a Nyquil semi-coma but I just feel a little too much beat up with a two by four after it. I agree that it feels like they just selected a third stringer and used them as a prop for a diversion, while the scant bit of moving the season arc along went on over in the Baltar/Baltar’s Hair segments.

  3. Ohmygod, they killed Cat! Those bastards!
Sorry, I had a thing for Cat.
Anyway, I got excited when I saw early yesterday that Jane Espenson – my favorite “Buffy” writer – penned this one.

Agreed. And I, too, would like to see some backstory on Cottle.

  4. Hey, maybe I missed this part, but how, if Kat took another persons identity DAYS before the invasion, did she ever manage to know enough about military piloting to pull it off?
or did I miss something crucial?

  5. Don’t tell anybody, but I thought Kat was way hotter than Starbuck.
One time, when I took some 4-way windowpane, I saw the eye of Jupiter…

  6. She was a drug runner, meaning she already knew how to fly, but I think she was also one of the “nuggets” trained by Starbuck after the apocalypse. I could be wrong about that last.
