Code Words Are So 2004

No longer necessary for crazy right-wingers.

Well, they’ve started pulling out the big guns. US Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-Klan) went and calledBarack and Michelle Obama “uppity.”

Westmoreland was discussing vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s
speech with reporters outside the House chamber and was asked to
compare her with Michelle Obama.

“Just from what little I’ve seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen.
Obama, they’re a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that
they’re uppity,” Westmoreland said.

Asked to clarify that he used the word “uppity,” Westmoreland said, “Uppity, yeah.”

That’s right. In the words of a GOP Congressman, Obama is now officially an Uppity Negro.

They’ve already called him “Boy,” and I think it’s only a matter of time before somebody drops an n-bomb on a live mic. Hopefully, there will be a public backlash, a la George Allen’s “macaca” bullshit from 2006.

‘Cause this shit is tired and played out.

Later in that bullshit article, we see this:

Campaigning against the first black major-party nominee has already created some problems for Republicans.

What the fuck? Why not, as Aaron Neville admonishes us, tell it like it is: The Republican Party is having a problem because it is full of, and caters to, a bunch of racist motherfuckers. Oh, the poor, hate-filled babies. They’re not allowed their full range of vitriolic expression because, and this is a great thing, that shit doesn’t actually play with the majority of the white folks in this country anymore. It ain’t 1908, bitches. So they’re having problems because they’re out of touch with America. Fine. Fuck ’em. When you’re that out of touch, you deserve to lose elections, becauseyou’re not representing the people.

Thus endeth the motherfucking sermon. Go in peace, brothers and sisters.

  1. You’re absolutely right that their problems with Obama are that they can’t use the full range of the racist language they want to use, not in public. They’re reduced to using their code words and desperately hoping that they won’t be called out on them.
So our job is clear, and you’re already in the vanguard. “Uppity”??“Uppity”?? In2008?

  3. All this is code. All of it, their whole campaign, from now until November. That’s what all the “community organizer” shit last night was about. It was about dragging out the ages-old horseshit that Martin Luther King was a Communist spy, and by extension, any black community organizer must be one as well:

As to the rest of the code language they used, I first encountered Eastern elites as code for Jews when I was researching my book. The people on the opposite side of the Davis Strike of ’38:

Said that because this man was Jewish, he wasn’t really one of them, that the university had too many “out of towners,” too many “New York” students, and that it was time for the “American kids” to be given a chance. These same people, for the most part, used the same language in the 1960s to talk about Eastern influences at the university. The players change, the moves remain the same.
I hope Joe and Hadassah Lieberman are happy with the company they keep. I hope Michael Steele is happy. The company they keep.

  5. Speaking of Steve Gilliard, he did a really goodtakedown of code words.
Also, I’m finally back to blagging again, except aside from apost about how the Small Spaces Living movement needs to get off its ass and start talking to the Barrier-Free Design people, I’m mostly just ranting about how disability issues pertain to current politics…

  6. Every once and awhile when reading your posts I check to see the A. But it’s you. Congratulations.

  7. Westmoreland makes even those of us in South Carolina cringe, and we’ve got some of the most retrograde, recidivist, knuckle-dragging, bigoted assholes of our own.

  8. OOh, the Enigma code breaker, cool. But, but, does McCain even know how to work it. Awwwww, poor baby.
    Uppity? Jeebus!
