The return trip home from our friends and family tour of Virginia was arduous and wet. We encountered torrential rain outside Chattanooga the first day and Hattiesburg on the second. Fortunately, Dr. A is an excellent driver so we drove through both storms unscathed. We’re high and dry and:

I’m wiped out from the road trip, but wanted to chime in about the No Kings protests. We attended the protest in Dr. A’s hometown of Staunton, VA. It was small town Americana at its best. It was also hot as hell, but we stood our ground and refused to back down as we sang along with a local band’s stirring rendition of this song:

That’s the American way as opposed to military parades to flatter the ego of a wannabe king. That’s the MAGA way.

The MAGA way is Un-American. I don’t care how many flags they hug. This is a nation founded on protest. The MAGA way is cosplay patriotism just like the Tea Party protests during the Obama administration. In a word: Astroturf. The No Kings protests came from the grassroots as a collective howl against a regime that acts as if it won in a landslide, not a squeaker. Holy cosplay mandate, Batman.

The featured image is of a 1765 protest against the Stamp Act in Boston. The cry was: No taxation without representation. Team Trump is trying to flip that mantra on its head with their claims of liberating Los Angeles from its elected leaders. Since when did Cosplay Kristi become a Duchess? This bush league Himmler should go back to South Dakota where she belongs. She’s not ready for the big leagues.

Defending democracy isn’t going to be easy but nothing worthwhile ever is. We need to stand with the patriots who defeated mad King George III, not with the madman who would be king and his cult of personality. They claim to stand with the First Amendment. We actually do. It’s the American way.
