Today on Tommy T’s Obsession with the Freeperati – gruesome grab-bag edition

Morning, everyone! Time to spin that airlock door wheel and do a quick roundup of threads that need to be addressed, but haven’t yet.

Starting with the most recent – Holder on – I’m coming!

Holder limits seized-asset sharing process that split billions with local, state police

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Friday barred local and state police from using federal law to seize cash, cars and other property without proving that a crime occurred.

Holder’s action represents the most sweeping check on police power to confiscate personal property since the seizures began three decades ago as part of the war on drugs.

Since 2008, thousands of local and state police agencies have made more than 55,000 seizures of cash and property worth $3 billion under a civil asset forfeiture program at the Justice Department called Equitable Sharing.

The program has enabled local and state police to make seizures and then have them “adopted” by federal agencies, which share in the proceeds. The program allowed police departments and drug task forces to keep up to 80 percent of the proceeds of the adopted seizures, with the rest going to federal agencies.

“With this new policy, effective immediately, the Justice Department is taking an important step to prohibit federal agency adoptions of state and local seizures, except for public safety reasons,” Holder said in a statement.

Holder’s decision allows some limited exceptions, including illegal firearms, ammunition, explosives and property associated with child pornography, a small fraction of the total. This would eliminate virtually all cash and vehicle seizures made by local and state police from the program.

While police can continue to make seizures under their own state laws, the federal program was easy to use and required most of the proceeds from the seizures to go to local and state police departments. Many states require seized proceeds to go into the general fund.

Did pigs sprout wings while I was at work today? I agree with this wholeheartedly!

Well, well … one thing I back him on! I would have never thought this would happen.
Very little has happened. The Feds can still seize cash (without any evidence of a crime) and the local LEOs can too. It’s just a matter of Holder wanting to dry up some of the seized money going to local LE.Holder and Obama don’t like local LE.

OK, what is the racist, America-hating, commie agitator up to then?
Maybe the other posters were correct in that he is doing this as a feint, to diffuse the objections to his replacement that has a gross history of indulging in asset confiscation.

One more Freeper attempts to unjerk the collective knee:

To: El Cid

This a good thing. In Wisconsin there is a formula on how seized property is distributed among various units of government. If a drug arrest is made under Federal Law the Arresting Department gets to keep the assets. We find many Police Departments are using the Federal law so they can keep the spoils.

First you give them the heroin, let them get addicted, then you take it away.

They got all the lower levels of LE to out grow their local funding, now every state and local law enforcement organization will be supporting the bigger federal government candidates, so they can get federal grants from higher federal taxes.

We lose again.

Graham critical of new GOP House report on Benghazi, calls findings ‘garbage’ ^ | 11/23/2014 |

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham on Sunday criticized a recently released House Republican report that concludes no intelligence lapses in connection with the fatal Benghazi attacks, saying congressional investigators did a “lousy job.”

“I think the report is full of crap,” Graham, a Republican, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

It might just be Lindsey, but he’s right.

Re: the redness on Wilson’s cheek.Part of Wilson’s testimony before the grand jury was that Brown tried to slap him and that Wilson partially blocked the slap. That’s what you see on the cheek, apparently.Wilson’s testimony is like reading the description of a different altercation than the one we’ve heard about – or, at least, the description we’ve heard is like hearing from the tenth kindergarten kid in the whispered ‘telephone’ line, and Wilson is the kindergarten kid who started the story.

Texas Congressman takes heat for Tweet on Obama and Hitler

Yahoo News ^ | January 13, 2015 Posted on 1‎/‎13‎/‎2015‎ ‎1‎:‎36‎:‎44‎ ‎PM by Din Maker

U.S. Representative Randy Weber, a Republican from Texas, has drawn hefty criticism and some praise after he compared President Barack Obama’s decision not to attend a rally in Paris to Adolf Hitler’s visit to the city after the Nazis invaded.

Weber, known for his anti-Obama rhetoric, took to Twitter on Monday: “Even Adolph Hitler thought it more important than Obama to get to Paris. (For all the wrong reasons.) Obama couldn’t do it for right reasons.”

Weber’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

Critics came out in force on Tuesday and said comparing a presidential visit to the Nazis’ deadly advance through Europe in World War Two was in poor taste. They slammed Weber for his lack of historical perspective and for misspelling the name of the former German leader.

“@TXRandy14 You are a terminal fool,” Tom D’Antoni, editor in chief of Oregon Music News, wrote in a tweet.

A smaller number of supporters said Weber was on the mark with his comments and criticized Obama for not attending.

The Obama lovers are verbally, and vulgarly, abusing him on Twitter. And wouldn’t you know it, the Congressman folded and apologized “to anyone my tweet offended”. Why the hell can’t these guys ever just say: “Hell yeah; I said it. Deal with it.” ?

Hitler comparisons are usually over the top. It’s not really much of comparison anyway. But it was a stupid statement. Makes no sense to bring up the two in one sentence … one was a war monger, the other an aloof muzzie supporter shirking his responsibilities.
