WE GAVE THEM MUCH

So back in August, after the FBI searched TFG’s home workplace Mar-A-Lago and took a bunch of boxes his lawyers said he didn’t have, he took to social media to declare his innocence:

On Tuesday night we found out he lied again:

A document describing a foreign government’s military defenses, including its nuclear capabilities, was found by FBI agents who searched former president Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and private club last month, according to people familiar with the matter, underscoring concerns among U.S. intelligence officials about classified material stashed in the Florida property.

Some of the seized documents detail top-secret U.S. operations so closely guarded that many senior national security officials are kept in the dark about them. Only the president, some members of his Cabinet or a near-Cabinet-level official could authorize other government officials to know details of these special-access programs, according to people familiar with the search, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive details of an ongoing investigation.

So, yeah, now we get to wonder again about the Saudis giving Jared $2 billion. And the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. And WTF Mike Flynn was doing in Turkey.

One of TFG’s current legal eagles had this to say about the case on Tuesday morning:

So let me get this straight: the FBI planted boxes of invisible documents that TFG gave back to the government but these invisible documents which are DEFINITELY not nuclear-related also belong personally to TFG and he wants then back now. Makes perfect sense.

TFG’s insistence he owns the documents is something that caught Josh Marshall’s attention and I thought he had an interesting point:

Our fearless leader wrote about the Cannon decision Tuesday and I’ll leave the legal stuff to him. As I said back when I wrote about the search, I’m here to talk about the vibe. And the vibes are certainly better now even as some of our worst fears are being confirmed, but that’s just as sign of how messed up everything is now. But the best part is waiting to see how all TFG’s Congressional cheerleaders are going to pivot on it.

For example, here’s what Lil’ Marco had to say about it before the news broke:

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, questioned FBI assertions that the documents found at Mar-a-Lago were classified or a threat to national security, citing the Biden administration’s never informing the panel or the so-called Gang of Eight about Trump’s possession of the documents.

“They never came to us and said there’s a bunch of missing classified information. That’s part of the problem here,” Rubio said. “If this was so serious, it should have been raised to the congressional level. We get briefed all the time on counterintelligence threats.”

It’s so delicious. He thinks he’s right because the FBI didn’t come and tell the Gang of Eight what they had found. He’s so far into his delusions that he thinks he’s entitled to know everything the FBI knows about the documents. I wonder how he felt last night.

I also wonder about the leak itself. Merrick Garland said the DOJ would speak through its filings, so was this a leak from the FBI? Was it in response to the Cannon ruling, letting everyone know how high the stakes are?

I’ll leave you with these thoughts:

  1. More likely Rubio is lying, the Gang were briefed and it came from there. Because if there was a leak from the FBI I suspect Garland will come down on the leaker like a ton of ton.
